Clinical Practice and Expertise

Prior to starting her own ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist clinic, Dr Ker Liang served as a Consultant with the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Singapore’s National University Health System (NUHS). She has more than 13 years of experience in the field of Otolaryngology, providing specialised ENT outpatient services as well as surgical care in all three hospitals in Singapore’s western hospital cluster, namely National University Hospital (NUH), Alexandra Hospital, and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH). In recognition of her quality service, she was conferred a Long Service Award (10 years of quality service) by the NUHS.

Dr Ker Liang specialises in treating patients, including children and seniors, with general ENT conditions and has a particular interest in Laryngology. She underwent fellowship training under Professor Marc Remacle and is well-versed in Laryngological conditions related to the throat, voice, and swallowing. She is a seasoned Laryngologist and has treated many esteemed overseas patients, such as military generals, in her Voice and Swallowing Clinic at NUH.

Education and Training

Dr Ker Liang graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS-YLLSOM) in 2009. As an undergraduate, she was invited to participate in the Otolaryngology Society Book Prize. In 2011, Dr Ker Liang started her specialist Otolaryngology training under the ACGME-I Residency Training Programme in Otorhinolaryngology (Singapore). Her postgraduate degrees include the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) Edinburgh and the Master of Medicine in Otolaryngology from the NUS Graduate Medical School.

In 2019, she received the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship from the Ministry of Health Singapore and began her Laryngology fellowship training at the prestigious Centre Hospitalier Luxembourg, guided by Professor Marc Remacle. The fellowship optimised her proficiency in various diagnostic and therapeutic laryngological techniques, including endoscopic evaluations of the vocal cords, vocal cord and phonosurgeries, and interventions for swallowing disorders. Dr Ker Liang attends international and regional conferences to keep updated on recent advancements in Laryngology as well as the broader field of ENT, Head and Neck Surgery.

Medical Teaching

Dr Ker Liang has a passion for teaching and is an Assistant Professor with NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSOM). As the NUS-NUH Otolaryngology Department Undergraduate Medical Director, Dr Ker Liang supervises the training of medical students from YLLSOM, NUS. She is actively involved in the training of postgraduate junior doctors and residents in the Head and Neck Surgery department. She was conferred with an Undergraduate Teaching Award by the National University Health System in 2016 for her outstanding efforts as an Otolaryngology educator.

Clinical Research

Dr Ker Liang has been actively extending the Otolaryngology literature, including voice and throat surgery. For instance, she was part of the team that
contributed an insightful journal article on gene expression in Singapore’s head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients, as well as presentations on the myringotomy ear simulation model, Human Papilloma Virus detection technique in head and neck cancer, and rhinosinusitis.

Hobbies

Dr Ker Liang is a keen athlete who excelled in badminton and track and field when she was a student. She was chosen to represent Singapore in the ASEAN and Southeast Asia Youth Badminton tournaments during her younger days. She enjoys sports and fitness and is currently learning Tennis and Boxing. She takes delight in giving back to society by partaking in volunteering activities, like fundraising for The Children’s Cancer Society.
